Is there something better for you out there? A better job, a better solution, a better friend, a better home, a better plan, a better client, a better this and that… Of course, there is. There always will be. There’s no end to better!
Will you let it crush you? Well, that’s a choice.
FOMO can cause stress and anxiety and affect your health badly when it gets extreme. You don’t want that.
You want to be present because what you have doesn’t only mean that there’s something you are missing out on, it’s also a gift that you can accept and use to create better. Acceptance can inspire growth.
You want to be grateful because it lifts your spirit, away from the fear and into positivity and optimism and you need those to create. Many researchers have connected gratitude to creativity.
Linda Naiman says “Gratitude is the antidote to anxiety and fear, allowing feelings of grace, wellbeing, and optimism to flow. When we experience positive emotions, we enhance our ability to solve problems and come up with more ideas for action.”
By the way, if you’re missing out on better, you’re probably missing out on worse too, so…
You want to make real connections, with people you can have conversations and share stories with. Real people. And if you’re at the extreme of FOMO, you probably want to stay off social media. Hang out with people that increase your sense of belonging instead. The flip side is to stay away from fake and bad energy (people).
Fear doesn’t help unless you convert it, and you can.
